Gujarat Link Deepens in Lucknow’s Fake Call Centre Probe
In a significant development, the Lucknow Police Crime Branch has arrested another accused from Ahmedabad in connection with the fake international call centre operating from the city’s Summit building. This arrest takes the total number of arrests in the case to 123, strengthening the emerging link between Gujarat and the investigation.
The latest accused, Niteshbhai Padmashali, 38, a resident of Gujarat’s Anand district, was arrested from Ahmedabad on the basis of technical and digital evidence gathered during the ongoing investigation. This is the third arrest from Gujarat, following the earlier arrests of Lalit Khairajani, 41, and Vikram Singh Parmar, 39, both from Ahmedabad.
Digital Evidence Leads to Another Arrest
According to the Lucknow Police Commissionerate, 119 accused were arrested from the Summit building on July 1, while three were arrested from Kolkata and one from Gujarat. Additional DCP (crime) Kiran Yadav said that electronic devices and other important material were recovered from Padmashali during the arrest. The police are now attempting to establish whether other individuals based in Gujarat played a role in coordinating the operation in Lucknow or provided financial, technical, or logistical support to the gang.
Unraveling the Network’s Hierarchy
The investigation is also examining the possible hierarchy of the network, including who arranged the premises and equipment, recruited and supervised employees, managed communications, and handled the money generated through the alleged fraudulent activities. “The investigation is a complex web, and we are working to unravel the entire network,” said ADCP Yadav. The police are also looking into whether there are any connections between this case and a previous case in which Padmashali was chargesheeted in 2019 under the Information Technology Act in Gujarat.
Padmashali to Face Interrogation in Lucknow
Padmashali, who is currently out on bail in the 2019 case, will be brought to Lucknow for detailed interrogation about his role in the call centre, his associates, and his links with other members of the network. The police are expected to question him about his involvement in the alleged fraudulent activities and his relationship with the other accused in the case.
