“Indian Landscapes” Unveiled: Artists’ Group Show-3 Brings Together Painters and Sculptors
Dehradun, 13 August: The city’s art enthusiasts are in for a treat as the Artists’ Group Show-3, “Indian Landscapes,” takes centre stage at Centrio Mall, Dehradun. The five-day exhibition, curated by Dehradun-based artist and sculptor Satpal Singh Gandhi, promises to be a visual feast, showcasing an eclectic mix of paintings and sculptures by 29 talented artists.
A Diverse Collection of Art
The exhibition features a wide range of artistic expressions, from watercolour and acrylic paintings to sculptures and works created from unconventional and recycled materials. The participating artists, including three guest artists, have been chosen for their unique styles and mediums, making this show a must-visit for art lovers.
Sculptures that Speak
Satpal Singh Gandhi’s sculptures, created from industrial junk, automotive junk, and other discarded materials, are a special attraction of the event. His work on human anatomy is a testament to his creativity and skill. Dr. Bindu Chhabra’s sculptures are also on display, showcasing her unique perspective on art.
Guest Artists Take Centre Stage
The three guest artists have been given a platform to showcase their work. Chief Guest Aloke B. Lal’s graphite pencil sketches on paper are a delight to behold. Bhumesh Bharti, a renowned photographer, has showcased his abstract photography, while Manika, a talented artist, has displayed her work, which has been showcased online and offline at various galleries and art shows.
Inauguration and Opening Speech
The exhibition was inaugurated on 12 August by former DGP, author, and artist Aloke B. Lal. In his opening speech, Lal emphasized the importance of artists in the community, stating that they represent the community just as a social worker works for the community. Gyanendra Kumar, another Guest of Honour, encouraged the artists to create their own work without copying from others or even using subjects from nature.
A Platform for Artists
The Group Show has been conceived as a common platform where established, emerging, and self-taught artists can display their work together and interact with viewers. The diversity of participating artists and their individual approaches to art give visitors an opportunity to experience different forms of visual expression under one roof.
Curator’s Vision
Curator Satpal Singh Gandhi believes that art should move beyond conventional gallery spaces and reach a wider audience. By holding the exhibition at a public space like Centrio Mall, Gandhi aims to bring art closer to people who may not ordinarily visit an art gallery. This is the third Group show at Centrio Mall in a row, curated by Satpal, bringing varied artists at one platform to showcase their work and give art lovers the opportunity to meet the artists and understand the art and artist.
Live Painting Workshop
A special attraction of the five-day event will be a Live Painting Workshop on 15 August from 11 a.m. onwards, where visitors will be able to watch artists at work. Instead of viewing only completed paintings, the audience will have an opportunity to observe the creative process as blank canvases and sheets of paper gradually take shape through colour, line, and imagination.
Creating Opportunities
For Gandhi, curating such exhibitions is also about creating opportunities. Many talented artists continue to work quietly in their studios and homes but have limited opportunities to exhibit before a larger audience. Group exhibitions provide them visibility while allowing artists to learn from one another.
