Monsoon Mayhem: Noida’s Beta 1 Residents Battle Treacherous Potholes
As the monsoon rains lash Greater Noida, the condition of the service road between gates 2 and 5 in Beta 1 has become a major concern for residents. The road, once a smooth passage, has transformed into a potholed nightmare, posing a significant risk to motorists and pedestrians alike.
A Test of Driving Skills
The road’s deteriorating condition has been a long-standing issue, with residents complaining that the authorities have turned a blind eye to their pleas for repairs. The potholes, some as deep as a few feet, have become a challenge for even the most skilled drivers. “It’s like navigating a minefield,” says Harinder Bhati, the sector’s RWA general secretary. “The authorities seem to be more concerned with planting new saplings than fixing the roads.”
False Promises of Progress
Bhati’s frustration is not unique. Residents of Beta 1 feel that the authorities have failed to deliver on their promises of development. “With every pothole, we are reminded of the false promises of progress touted by GNIDA,” he says. “It seems the authority’s indifference may soon cost someone their life.” The residents are demanding immediate repairs to the road, which they claim has been neglected for months.
A Pattern of Neglect
The problem of neglected roads is not limited to Beta 1. Nearby sectors, such as Gamma 1, are also grappling with similar issues. In Gamma 1, residents claim that repair work began far too late, leaving them to navigate the treacherous roads during the monsoon. “Instead of planting new saplings during the rainy season, the authority is busy building a dilapidated road,” says Nidhi Sharma, a resident of Gamma 1. “What are they doing? This work should have been done much before the onset of monsoon.”
A Call for Accountability
Residents of Beta 1 and Gamma 1 are not just complaining about the road conditions; they are demanding accountability from their elected and appointed officials. “The public’s patience is wearing thin, and they eagerly await accountability and tangible solutions from their officials,” says Bhati. The residents are urging the authorities to address the crucial infrastructure issues that threaten their safety.
A Response from GNIDA
When asked about the issue, GNIDA officials claimed that repair work is already in progress. However, the residents are skeptical about the authorities’ commitment to addressing the problem. “We are left asking when this road will be built,” says Sangeeta Sharma, the RWA president of Beta 1. “Or will it take a major tragedy for action to be taken?” The residents are waiting with bated breath for the authorities to take concrete action to address the issue.
