Don’t forget sacrifices of freedom fighters: Himachal Speaker Pathania

Himachal’s Freedom Heroes: A Tribute to Their Unwavering Spirit

On a day when the nation celebrated its 77th Independence Day, Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania reminded the people of Himachal Pradesh of the supreme sacrifices made by freedom fighters who secured India’s freedom. Addressing a gathering in Bilaspur, Pathania urged the younger generation to remember the struggles, sacrifices, and martyrdom of these brave men and women who fought for the country’s independence.

A Nation Transformed

Pathania began by highlighting the stark contrast between India in 1947 and the country today. “At the time of Independence, India faced significant challenges in education, healthcare, and basic amenities,” he said. “However, over the years, the nation has made tremendous progress, emerging as one of the world’s most populous nations and a rapidly rising global power.” He attributed this progress to the collective efforts of the people, who have worked tirelessly to build a better India.

The Price of Freedom

The Speaker emphasized that the freedom enjoyed today was a direct result of the struggles, sacrifices, and martyrdom of the freedom fighters. He paid tribute to the martyred soldiers and their families, saying that their sacrifices would never be forgotten. “Their bravery and unwavering spirit inspired generations to come,” he added. Pathania also highlighted the significant role played by freedom fighters from Bilaspur in the freedom movement and the contribution of soldiers from the district in safeguarding the country’s borders after Independence.

The Cellular Jail: A Testimony to Freedom Fighters’ Struggles

Referring to the Cellular Jail in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Pathania said that its walls still bore testimony to the struggles, sacrifices, and torture endured by freedom fighters. “Despite facing immense hardships, they never wavered in their resolve,” he said. The Cellular Jail, a symbol of India’s freedom struggle, stands as a reminder of the sacrifices made by these brave men and women.

Passing on the Legacy

Pathania stressed the need to acquaint the younger generation with the history and significance of India’s freedom struggle. “It is essential to pass on the legacy of our freedom fighters to the next generation, so they can understand the value of freedom and the sacrifices made to achieve it,” he said. By doing so, we can ensure that their contributions are never forgotten and their spirit continues to inspire future generations.

Himachal’s Development Journey

The Speaker also acknowledged the contribution of former Chief Ministers, including Dr YS Parmar, Thakur Ram Lal, Shanta Kumar, Virbhadra Singh, Prem Kumar Dhumal, and Jai Ram Thakur, to Himachal’s development during their respective tenures. He also praised the current Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, for his efforts in taking the state forward. “Their collective efforts have helped shape Himachal Pradesh into the beautiful state it is today,” Pathania said.

Conclusion

As the nation celebrates its Independence Day, it is essential to remember the sacrifices made by freedom fighters who secured India’s freedom. Their bravery, unwavering spirit, and sacrifices continue to inspire us today. By passing on their legacy to the younger generation, we can ensure that their contributions are never forgotten and their spirit continues to inspire future generations.
