Bengal: ER GM Embarks on Safety and Efficiency Inspection of Sealdah Division
Kolkata, August 8 – In a move aimed at ensuring operational efficiency, safety, and passenger amenities, Eastern Railway (ER) General Manager Gitika Pandey conducted an inspection of the Sealdah division on Saturday. This bustling division handles millions of passengers daily, operating over 700 EMU locals and passenger trains, along with several mail and express services to North Bengal and North India.
A Day of Interaction and Assessment
During her inspection, Pandey interacted with passengers and frontline railway staff at Sealdah and Kalyani stations. She reviewed ongoing station development projects in the Sealdah-Kalyani section, personally evaluating passenger amenities, safety arrangements, and security measures at Sealdah station. Her inspection included a visit to the crew lobby, where she examined the booking management system for loco pilots and assistant loco pilots to maintain operational efficiency.
Commitment to Workplace Safety
Pandey demonstrated her commitment to workplace safety by interacting directly with frontline safety staff to discuss operational field conditions and reinforce strict safety adherence. She then conducted a window-trailing inspection along the Sealdah-Kalyani section to assess track conditions, signalling integrity, and overall route safety. This comprehensive assessment will help identify areas that require attention and improvement.
Transformation Works Underway
Upon reaching Kalyani, Pandey inspected transformation works under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. This ambitious project aims to modernize and upgrade passenger amenities, including the construction of foot overbridges, expansion of car parking facilities, and the creation of passenger interaction zones. The updated station facades will not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the stations but also provide a more comfortable and convenient experience for passengers.
A Zero-Tolerance Approach to Safety
Since taking charge on August 1, Pandey has emphasized a zero-tolerance approach to safety and efficient train running. Her focus on safety and efficiency has already led to a series of initiatives, including video-conferencing with over 780 frontline staff from all four ER divisions to discuss operational challenges. She has also been closely monitoring safety, security, and operational efficiency during the ongoing Shravani Mela, which sees millions of pilgrims traveling to Deoghar and Tarakeswar.
