Andhra Pradesh: GGH Blood Bank Gets Major Upgrade from Siddhartha Medical College Alumni
In a significant boost to healthcare services in Vijayawada, the Siddhartha Medical College Alumni Association (SMCAA) has donated ₹75 lakh worth of modern equipment to the Government General Hospital (GGH) blood bank. The upgraded facility is set to improve blood collection, testing, separation, and storage of blood components, ensuring timely availability of quality blood to patients.
A Tribute to Selfless Service
District Collector Dr G. Lakshmisha inaugurated the renovated blood bank on Saturday, commending the SMCAA for its invaluable contribution to strengthening healthcare services in the region. He expressed his gratitude to the association’s coordinator, Dr N. Ammanna, for his sustained social service and recalled the association’s support during the Covid-19 pandemic. The SMCAA had provided assistance in setting up oxygen plants at government hospitals and other relief initiatives, showcasing the alumni’s commitment to giving back to society.
A Symbol of Unity and Philanthropy
The collector praised the alumni for their collective effort in upgrading the blood bank, which will now be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. The modern equipment includes sterile connection devices, blood component monitors, donor couches, a platelet agitator and incubator, refrigerated centrifuge, ELISA washer and reader, gel-card centrifuge and incubator, microscopes, centrifuges, reagent refrigerator, and coagulation analyser. This upgrade will significantly improve the efficiency and quality of blood collection and storage, benefiting patients across the region.
A Show of Generosity from the Siddhartha Medical College Alumni
The SMCAA has been at the forefront of supporting government healthcare services in Andhra Pradesh. The association’s efforts have been led by Dr Ammanna, who has been instrumental in coordinating the alumni’s initiatives. The blood bank upgrade is just one of the many initiatives undertaken by the SMCAA, which has also contributed to the setting up of oxygen plants and other relief efforts during the pandemic.
The donors who contributed to the blood bank upgrade include Dr Arun Mitra Kandra, who donated ₹30 lakh, SMCAA North America, which contributed ₹20 lakh, and Dr Ammanna, who donated ₹20 lakh. Other notable donors include Dr Samyuktha and Dr N. Rambabu, who each donated ₹1 lakh, Dr A. Durgabhavani and Dr J. Karun Kumar Raju, who contributed ₹50,000 each, and Dr Uma Ramani, who donated ₹10,000.
