Delhi Police Secures Convictions in Two NDPS Cases, Exceeds 1.4 kg Ganja Recovered
In a significant crackdown on narcotics smuggling, the Delhi Police has secured convictions in two separate cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The convictions, which were announced by the South-West District of Delhi Police, bring to light the concerted efforts of the police and the Prosecution Branch in ensuring speedy justice.
Speedy Trials and Convictions
The convictions were secured in FIR No. 130/26 and FIR No. 66/26 under Section 20 of the NDPS Act, registered at Palam village police station. In the first case, accused Anuj Kumar and Vishal alias Sampi were convicted through an order dated August 10, with the conviction coming within 133 days of the offence and after 45 days of trial. In the second case, accused Sanjay Sharma and Rafiq Ahmed were convicted through an order dated August 3, with the conviction secured within six months of the offence and after 119 days of trial.
Coordinated Efforts Lead to Convictions
The Delhi Police attributed the convictions to the coordinated efforts of the investigating teams and the Prosecution Branch. Assistant Public Prosecutors Vikas Kharb and Sudhanshu Saini presented the prosecution’s cases, evidence, and facts before the court, resulting in the conviction of all four accused. The press release stated that “cases were effectively presented before the Court through the coordinated efforts of the investigating teams and the Prosecution Branch.”
Recovery of Over 1.4 kg Ganja
The convictions were secured in the backdrop of the recovery of over 1.4 kg of ganja from the accused. In the first case, Sanjay Sharma was apprehended on February 4, allegedly carrying 442 grams of ganja. Following his disclosure, Rafiq Ahmed was arrested, and another 400 grams of ganja was allegedly recovered from his possession. In the second case, Anuj Kumar was apprehended on March 29 with 545 grams of alleged ganja. Following his disclosure, police arrested Vishal alias Sampi and recovered another 68 grams.
Amit Goel: Convictions Reflect Sincerity and Resolve
Deputy Commissioner of Police, South-West District, Amit Goel hailed the convictions as a testament to the “sincerity, professionalism, coordinated effort, and resolve” of Delhi Police and the Prosecution Branch. The convictions, according to Goel, reflect the police’s resolve to curb drug-related offences and ensure speedy justice.
Scientific Investigation Key to Success
The Delhi Police attributed the success in the cases to the role of scientific investigation. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report confirmed the nature of the substances recovered in both cases, paving the way for the convictions. The police said the outcome highlights the importance of scientific investigation in ensuring justice and reaffirmed their resolve to curb drug-related offences.
