Nagaland’s Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio Highlights Peaceful Law and Order Situation
Kohima, August 15: In his Independence Day speech at the 80th Independence Day celebration at Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza, Kohima, Nagaland’s Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio expressed satisfaction with the state’s law and order situation, attributing it to the dedication of the District Administration, Police, and security forces.
A Cowardly Act of Violence
However, Dr Rio did acknowledge an incident of an IED blast in Chümoukedima District targeting a vehicle carrying Assam Rifles personnel, resulting in the death of one personnel and grievous injury to four others. He condemned the attack, terming it a “cowardly act” that has no place in society. The Chief Minister emphasized that those responsible for the incident need to be identified and brought to justice. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation of the case.
War on Drugs: A Success Story
Dr Rio highlighted the success of the ‘War on Drugs’ by the Police, which has seen over 407 NDPS cases registered across the state and 677 accused persons arrested from January 2024 to May 2026. This initiative has been a significant step towards maintaining law and order in the state.
Boost to Nagaland Police Mobility
The Nagaland Police is set to receive a significant boost in mobility with the acquisition of 550 new vehicles through Police Modernization assistance from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The newly procured vehicles were flagged off on July 27, 2026. This development is expected to enhance the effectiveness of the police force in maintaining law and order in the state.
Infrastructure Development
The district administration has seen significant infrastructure development in the financial year 2025-26. Notable projects include the construction and inauguration of DC Office Complex at Shamator, ADC Office Complex at Akuluto, ADC Office at Seyochung and Tamlu, SDO(C) Office at Ralan, ADC Quarter at Chozuba, Tobu and Medziphema, and EAC Quarter at Sungro. These developments are expected to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the district administration.

Dr Rio extended gratitude to the people of Nagaland for their steadfast support and cooperation with the government in its efforts to promote development and peace. He urged the people to renew their pledge to work together for an even more developed, self-reliant, and prosperous Nagaland.
