SAD Chief Sukhbir Singh Badal’s Life Threatened: Wife Harsimrat Kaur Demands NIA Probe
Chandigarh, August 16 – Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the two murderous attacks on party President Sukhbir Singh Badal. The SAD MP from Bathinda made this announcement while addressing a rally in Guruharsahai town, the second phase of the party’s “Punjab Bachao” campaign.
A Conspiracy Involving Politicians and Police Officers
Terming both crimes as a “deep-rooted conspiracy”, Harsimrat Kaur said that the attacks were not isolated incidents, but rather part of a larger plan to eliminate Sukhbir Singh Badal and weaken the party. The SAD leader displayed a post-surgery picture of Sukhbir Singh Badal’s severely injured arm, which required over 150 stitches to close the wound. She also showed the one-and-a-half-foot-long ‘kirch’ (dagger) used by the assailant to attack the SAD Chief.
A Cowardly Act in a Place of Worship
The SAD Chief’s wife revealed that in the case of the attack in Nanded, the assailant, who was dressed as a Nihang Sikh, first pretended to escort Sukhbir Singh Badal down the stairs of the Mata Sahib Gurudwara Devan, before turning around to attack him. Harsimrat Kaur termed this act as “cowardly” and demanded that the NIA probe the incident to get to the bottom of the attacks and the persons who are sponsoring them.
A Conspiracy Involving an ISI Agent and a Superintendent of Police
Harsimrat Kaur also disclosed that the ISI agent who attacked Sukhbir Singh Badal at Sri Darbar Sahib was facilitated by a Superintendent of Police and was able to secure bail within three months. She alleged that this was a clear case of conspiracy involving politicians and police officers.
A Call for NIA Probe
The SAD leader urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to order a NIA probe into both incidents, stating that the agency was best equipped to investigate the complex web of conspiracies involved in the attacks. She said that the NIA probe would help to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore peace in Punjab.
A Message of Resilience
Harsimrat Kaur also used the opportunity to send a message of resilience to the people of Punjab. She said that the SAD would not be cowed down by these divisive acts and that Sukhbir Singh Badal would rebound even stronger than before. She asserted that the party’s strength lay in its commitment to its values and its Guru, and that nothing could sway it from its path.

The SAD leader also revealed that Sukhbir Singh Badal was in high spirits after being discharged from the hospital. She said that the sight of a “baaj” (hawk) circling his hospital window had further strengthened his resolve to serve the “Panth” to the best of his abilities.
