Independence Day 2026: A Celebration of India’s 80th Year of Freedom

On this day, the nation will celebrate its 80th Independence Day at the historic Red Fort in Delhi, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the festivities. A Guard of Honour Fit for a Nation
The Prime Minister’s Guard of Honour will comprise one officer and 24 personnel each from the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and Delhi Police. Lieutenant Colonel Arjun Singh will command the Guard of Honour, while Major Aditya Sharma will lead the Army contingent. Lieutenant Commander Neelam Rana will command the Navy contingent, Squadron Leader Vipin Kumar will lead the Air Force contingent, and Additional DCP Vineet Kumar will command the Delhi Police contingent. This impressive display of military precision will set the tone for the celebrations.
A 21-Gun Salute and the Flag Hoisting Ceremony
The flag-hoisting ceremony will coincide with a 21-gun salute fired by the 1721 Field Battery (Ceremonial). Captain Sonia Singh Chauhan will assist PM Modi during the ceremony. The ceremonial battery will use indigenous 105mm Light Field Guns, commanded by Major Pawan Singh Shekhawat. Naib Subedar Anuthosh Sarkar will serve as the Gun Position Officer. As the National Flag is hoisted, two Mi-17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force will shower flower petals over the venue, adding a touch of grandeur to the celebrations.

After the Prime Minister concludes his speech, NCC cadets and ‘My Bharat’ volunteers will perform the National Song ‘Vande Mataram’. This will be followed by the National Anthem, marking the conclusion of the main ceremonial programme.
