Indian Railways Posts Impressive 9% Freight Growth in July 2026

The increase in freight movement generated incremental revenue of ₹11.37 billion over July 2025, marking an 8% growth. Among the Zonal Railways, several zones recorded notable gains in freight revenue, including East Central Railway (33%), Eastern Railway (33%), West Central Railway (23%), and South Eastern Railway (10.33%).
Passenger Traffic on the Rise
Passenger traffic also continued to expand, with Indian Railways carrying 633.5 million passengers in July 2026, compared to 621.9 million in July 2025. This growth reflects the rising preference for rail travel nationwide, with both suburban and non-suburban segments witnessing an increase in passenger numbers.
