Unlocking Amaravati’s Potential: Seed Access Road Set to Boost Growth
Amaravati, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh, is on the cusp of a major transformation with the imminent inauguration of the Steel Bridge and the long-awaited Seed Access Road. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is expected to officially launch these landmark projects on August 13 and 15, respectively, marking a significant milestone in the city’s development journey.
Completing the Capital’s Primary Access Corridor
The twin projects will complete the capital’s primary access corridor, providing seamless connectivity from Vijayawada and Guntur to Amaravati. This will remove one of the biggest obstacles that has hindered the capital’s growth over the past several years. The completion of the Seed Access Road and the Steel Bridge will transform connectivity, boost investment, speed up construction activity, and strengthen Amaravati’s role as Andhra Pradesh’s administrative and economic centre.
Amaravati Master Plan: A Visionary Approach
The Amaravati Master Plan conceived the 21-km Seed Access Road as the capital’s principal arterial corridor linking Vijayawada directly with the Secretariat, Assembly, High Court, government offices, educational institutions, residential townships, and commercial districts. The first 18.33-km stretch up to Venkatapalem was completed in 2018, but the remaining 3.9-km section connecting Undavalli remained stalled due to land disputes, legal challenges, and pending bridge construction.
Reviving the Project: A New Era of Progress
After assuming office, the Naidu government revived the project, resolving most pending land issues and accelerating construction. Most of the required land had already been secured through the Amaravati Land Pooling Scheme, while the remaining parcels were acquired through legal procedures. This cleared the final hurdles to completion, paving the way for the project’s successful fruition.
A Defining Feature: The Steel Bridge
A defining feature of the project is the Steel Bridge across the Krishna Delta Canal, Buckingham Canal, and Kondaveeti Vagu near Undavalli. The bridge is expected to become the new gateway to Amaravati, providing a wider, faster, and uninterrupted alternative to the narrow Karakatta road. This will dramatically reduce travel time between Vijayawada and the capital, ensuring smooth access to the capital’s administrative institutions while meeting future traffic requirements.
A Logistics Corridor for Amaravati
The Seed Access Road will also become the principal logistics corridor for Amaravati. Faster movement of construction materials, heavy equipment, and essential supplies is likely to accelerate work on government complexes, residential townships, commercial centres, and other infrastructure projects across the capital region. Officials have integrated the corridor with the West Bypass and the National Highway network, while plans are progressing for an elevated corridor from Undavalli to Manipal Hospital.
A Comprehensive Transport Network
The completion of the Seed Access Road and the Steel Bridge will create a comprehensive transport network that will support Amaravati’s long-term expansion.
