Tongkhar Takes Stock of Jakrem’s Infrastructure Ahead of Major Religious Events
Mawkyrwat, August 2: As the countdown begins for two major religious events scheduled to take place in Jakrem village in the next two years, Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton L. Tongkhar has rolled up his sleeves to ensure that the village is well-prepared to host the gatherings.
A Roadmap to Readiness
Tongkhar, accompanied by a team of officials including PWD (Roads) Executive Engineer Joel P. Marbaniang, SDO Banjop Shylla and Mawkyrwat BDO I. Lawryniang, inspected several internal roads in Jakrem village on Saturday. The visit was at the behest of the Jakrem Dorbar Shnong, which had requested the MLA to facilitate the construction and blacktopping of 20 internal roads.
The upgrades are crucial to facilitate the smooth conduct of the General Assembly of the Church of God (Meghalaya and Assam) in 2028 and the centenary celebrations of the Jakrem Catholic Church in 2029. These events are expected to bring together thousands of devotees from across the region, and Tongkhar’s team is working tirelessly to ensure that the village’s infrastructure is up to the task.
A Meet with Community Leaders
During the inspection, Tongkhar met with Jakrem Myntri Pascal Wahlang and church elders to assess the requirements of the community. The MLA was briefed on the specific needs of the village, including the need for better road connectivity to facilitate the smooth movement of devotees during the events.
A Commitment to Action
Following the inspection, Tongkhar assured the community that the PWD would prepare formal estimates for the requested roadworks. He committed to following up on these proposals to secure sanctions through the state government, the Chief Minister’s fund, and the MLA scheme.
The MLA also requested the BDO to explore block-level resources and work in coordination with village authorities to undertake specific construction projects for the benefit of the public. This move is expected to bring about a significant improvement in the village’s infrastructure, making it more accessible and convenient for the community.
A Collaborative Effort
Tongkhar’s efforts to upgrade Jakrem’s infrastructure are a testament to his commitment to serving the people of Mawkyrwat. His team’s collaborative approach to addressing the community’s needs is a shining example of how government officials can work together to achieve common goals.
As the countdown begins for the major religious events, the people of Jakrem can take heart in knowing that Tongkhar and his team are working tirelessly to ensure that the village is well-prepared to host the gatherings. With their commitment to action and collaborative approach, it’s clear that Jakrem will be ready to shine in the years to come.
